“When you squeeze an orange, you’ll always get orange juice to come out. What comes out is what’s inside. The same logic applies to you: when someone squeezes you, puts pressure on you, or says something unflattering or critical, and out of you comes anger, hatred, bitterness, tension, depression, or anxiety, that is what’s inside. If love and joy are what you want to give and receive, change your life by changing what’s inside.” Wayne Dyer
I love this quote from Wayne Dyer. It really speaks to me in terms of how we THINK, how we SHOW UP, and how we FEEL in our work and life on a daily basis.
“Give to the world the best you have … and the best will come back to you”
Mirror Mirror on the Wall A yoga teacher shared in class that life is not about changing the world and serving others. Life is about serving yourself with love and then actually that self-love is what creates positive change in others and in the world. Am I at the mercy of serving others so much that I lose myself in the process? What does that do to my energy and the energy of those around me?
“Perceived failure can become a catalyst for profound reinvention.” Conan O’Brien
You were let go from a job, the business didn’t work out, you made a mistake on a project, you weren’t picked for an assignment, or perhaps you could have done better on that presentation last month. We all know that mistakes and failures are part of our life. And most of us know that it is how we deal with actual failure, perceived failure, or a fear of failure that matters. Why is failure so hard to deal with if we know its part of life and we know it’s a possibility?
“Every time you are tempted to react in the same old way, ask if you want to be a prisoner of the past or a pioneer of the future.” ― Deepak Chopra

A vast majority of resumes are missing the mark …
The resume is the only real window to show a hiring manager what we are REALLY all about. We get 1-2 pages to describe our entire career, show what makes us different, and illustrate all of this in punchy one-liners. A vast majority of resumes miss the mark. Why? Writing and branding our work is essentially advertising. And unless we have a background in advertising, it is REALLY hard to dig deep and come up with what makes us REALLY who we are.
Lets dig in to 3 common resume problems with practical solutions to help BOOST your resume
“The good news — and it is largely good news — is that everyone has a chance to stand out. Everyone has a chance to learn, improve, and build up their skills. Everyone has a chance to be a brand worthy of remark.” Tom Peters
Now, more than ever, to navigate successfully in this new economy, we must brand our work in terms of the VALUE we bring to our target audience. We have to show our target audience in their terms where and when we do our BEST work in the market.
The uncertainty in life is paralyzing, is suffocating, is scary, is unknown. Unfound territory and unstepped moments – we are not sure what is next for you and me ….
The uncertainty of when we will meet someone special, or if/when we will have a baby, and if/when we will have a second baby, and when we will find a better work situation, and when we will feel better, and when the cancer will go away, and when someone we love will feel better, and if we will get into that school, and when our money situation will improve, and when we will sell our house, and when we will just get to relax – sit back and watch .…
‘Creating Space’ is all about being REALLY clear about energy boundaries with people at work and in life. This is all about being grounded in your own energy rather than absorb the stress of your kid, the frantic energy of your boss, or the person honking their horn at you.
If you are like me, you might get anxious when you are waiting in an extra long line at the grocery store or coffee shop. You can create space as you are standing in line … ANY LINE.
Cover letters (i.e. cover e-mails) can give you an edge in your job application by providing a succinct and customized summary to the hiring manager about why would be a great fit for the job. Think of this as the interview before the interview. So, how do you write a cover letter that gets noticed?
CUSTOMIZE – CONNECT – CONCISE
A cover letter that is customized, concise, and creates a connection will give you an edge!
“No matter what it takes, every morning you wake up with ‘this isn’t working, but I’m going to do this.’ I don’t care what obstacles are in my way, it’s not who is going to let me, it’s who is going to stop me.” – Lori Greiner, Shark Tank, investor, entrepreneur

“Let desire give birth to aspiration.” – Stephen Cope
When I was a kid, I would compete in music competitions for flute. I would practice and practice for a competition for months and then get a score on the day of the competition. During my junior year in high school, I practiced and performed one of my favorite pieces of all time for about six months. When it came to the state competition, I was literally the last flute standing and was a top 10 instrument finalist. The question I ask myself now is – what was the source of my motivation? Did I need that approval from judges to validate my work? Was I grasping for the outcome or aspiring for mastery, or both?
I just had my birthday a last week. Normally, I am bashful, quiet about my birthday: I don’t want people to fuss, I don’t want people to “do stuff for me,” I don’t want people to HAVE to do anything, I don’t want attention, I don’t feel good about the day – at all. Why? Spotlight is on ME.
This birthday was different – it was the BEST one ever. What changed my attitude about my birthday? My slow and bumpy journey of SELF-LOVE. And it all started almost two years ago with unexpected JOB LOSS.
